Upper strut mounts of strut assembly of front suspension for LADA Priora family

Upper strut mounts of strut assembly of front suspension is designed for use in the front suspension of LADA Priora 2170, 2171, 2172 and its modifications.

The strut mount serves to transmit axial, radial and other forces to the body and moments transmitted by the guide device suspension, damping force and elastic forces of coil springs and compression buffer.

Strut mount consists of 4 main elements (Fig. 1):

  • strut mount (1),
  • annular hearing (2),
  • limiter of rebound (3),
  • compression motion limiter (7).

Strut mount (1) consists of an outer case (4) with mounting bolts (5), the inner bushing (8) and bearing support (6), connected with rubber by vulcanization.

Annular hearing is a hermetic construction with durable lubricating stuff. It has a press fit on the bearing support (6).

Limiters of rebound (3) and compression motion (7) is intended to limit the forces generated by the movement of the wheels, and helps to absorb the energy of the released coil springs at the end of rebound and compression when driving over roughnesses of road. Installation of support without limiters can cause premature failure and leads to the loss of the possibility of a replacement under warranty.

The main differences and advantages of strut mounts ASOMITM are:

1.    Displacement of the axis of mounting bolts ASOMITM

Strut mounts ASOMITM made with displacement of the axis of mounting bolts relative to the bushing axis (the axis of the strut rod). This revision allowed the use of a strut mount for different models of  suspension for Lada Kalina and Lada Priora, and increase its service life by several times!

2.    Increased rigidity of the strut mount housing ASOMITM

First section is a zone of bearing support, where the spring force is transmitted, has a more hard rubber.

The second section is a zone of vulcanization of the inner sleeve, on which the effort of the shock absorber is transmitted, has a more soft rubber.

This engineering solution in strut mounts ASOMITM for cars Lada Kalina and Lada Priora improves vibration isolation of the car, reduces the overall noise level to 4 dB, provides smooth damping effect (absorption) of the vibration by the upper strut mount of strut assembly of front suspension (in contrast to the production of strut mounts that have insufficient vibration damping properties). At the same time rod displacement is limited and a progressive characteristic of the upper strut mount is formed, which increases its power consumption.

In addition, due to the ring-shaped webbing of the strut mount ASOMITM and deepened bearing part (6), the reliability of the connection of the elastic insert to the body  increases what consequently increases the lifetime of the strut mount ASOMITM ace several times (Fig. 3).

4.    The ideal ratio of axial and radial rigidity (400/1500 N / mm) of the strut mount ASOMITM

5.    The original improved design of limiters of rebound and compression motion.

Specialists of "ASOMI" developed and applied in the strut mounts ASOMITM for cars Lada Kalina and Lada Priora improved limiters of the rebound and compression with optimized design. Poppet type limiters fitted with the peripheral ring flat side, against which the upper ring elastic member of the elastic strut mount insertion set (Fig. 6).

The technical result of the use of these limiters of the rebound and compression is an improve in the vibration-damping properties of the strut mount ASOMITM, increase in the resource of work and the smoothness of a course.

The reason is that while driving, when run over bumps, the car wheel makes oscillatory motion, and the low-frequency spring oscillations of the strut mount of front suspension in most are damped (absorbed) by the elastic gasket located between the cup and the spring. A smaller part of the low-frequency vibrations through the bearing (4), the bearing sleeve of the upper strut mount, part (1) of the elastic insert (3) of the upper strut mount and the body (5) is transmitted to the body, and high-frequency oscillations of the rod are damped (absorbed) by the part (2) of the elastic inserts (3) of the upper strut mount.

With a uniform driving on a flat road, vibration, arising from minor bumps and hard tire rolling, are transmitted via the suspension to the body, rod vary in such a way that part (2) of the elastic insert (3) of the upper strut mount ASOMITM works on a shift of its layers at the same time achieving maximum efficiency of vibration absorption and comfort drive.

When the loads, transmitted to the upper strut mount through the rod increase, and this is happening when the wheel run over a big bump or gets in the pit, the poppet type limiters of the compression (9) and rebound (8) start to work. Due to the presence on the upper (6) and lower (7) ring elastic elements of the elastic insert (3) projections (10) and (11), which are in contact respectively with the peripheral ring flat part (12) of the poppet type limiter of the  rebound (8) and the limiter of compression (9), a smooth effect of damping (absorption) vibrations of the top strut mount arise , as these projections (10) and (11) perform the function of soft-start that part of their material, which should work in compression at a given moment of time. At the same time rod displacement is limited and a progressive characteristic of the top support ASOMITM formed, which increases its power intensity at a lower overall dimensions.

6.    Caster angle. Increase up to +0,5° on cars Lada Priora

After installation of strut mounts ASOMITM on cars Lada Priora value of caster ( the angular displacement from the vertical axis of the suspension of a steered wheel) is 0,5 °. Increase of caster angle improves demolition change when you turn the wheel and has a positive effect on the car's controllabillity, as it increases stabilization shoulder. Slightly increased caster 0,5 ° increases steering descriptiveness and improves steering self-recovery. In other words, Lada Priora with strut mounts ASOMITM is better managed, especially at high speeds.

Thus, the strut mount ASOMITM for cars Lada Kalina and Lada Priora have the following advantages:
